Body Mass Index

What is BMI?

Body mass index (BMI) is one of the best measurements used globally to calculate body mass.
It is used to distinguish between thinness, underweight, weight gain and various obesity levels.
BMI = weight /Length in meters(m)2 kg/m2
*BMI is recognized by the American National Institute of Health and the World Health Organization as the best measure of ghee.

Am I an obese patient or not?

BMI helps you know if you're an obese patient or just overweight thorough these numbers:
If the result is:
- Under 15: You are suffering from a severe nutritional deficiency.
-15-16: Acute nutritional deficiency.
- From 16-18.5: Underweight.
- From 18.5-25: Normal weight.
-25-30: Weight gain.
-30-35: First degree obesity.
- From 35-40: Moderate obesity.
- More than 40: Severe obesity.

Children's BMI:

It is calculated in the same equation, but the results are different from adults. Different tables are therefore referenced due to the different distribution of fat in children from adults.

BMI and bariatric surgery:

When do I go for a bariatric surgery?
A question that comes to mind to many who are overweight. Does anyone who is overweight should resort to bariatric surgery?
The answer is, of course, no. Those who are overweight should go for some non-surgical methods to lose weight and try it. Such as various diets and exercise.
If they achieve good results in weight loss, that's a good achievement. But if the body does not respond to these methods, the obese patient should go to bariatric surgery to get rid of this weight increase.
The attitude for bariatric surgery is when the BMI is reached 35 and above.
Or 30 in the presence of other organic diseases such as high blood pressure, Diabetes, high cholesterol level, heart and bone diseases.

When do I choose Gastric Balloon?

A gastric balloon is a simple non-surgical weight loss technique. It is done in 10 minutes by oral endoscopy without anesthesia, only with a simple sedative.
This technique works by filling the balloon for a large area of the stomach and thus the patient reaches fullness with the least amount of food.
A gastric balloon is the perfect solution for obese patients who suffer from a slight weight gain (15-20 kg).
